Memorial Day is right around the corner and I’m thinking about summer pleasures and ease. What are your top style classics when summer hits?
Here are my top 6 summer style musts.
In multiples—an assortment of solids and prints, in navy, pink and white with Ikat, leopard and tablemat prints. My favorites are from QVC from Louis Dell’Olio. They show just the right amount of skin and have sophisticated, fresh patterns you just can’t find in department stores. I also have a couple of Liz Lange maxis via HSN in solids and they are ultra-flattering. I’d buy more but the design itself is the same for all her maxis…bound in the middle with a metal circle…and I like greater variety. So, I have about 4 print maxis and 4 solid ones. They let the air in and you can sit anyway you want. I like that if I don’t feel like it, I don’t need to shave my legs or put any leg makeup on and still look pulled together. I like that I can wear them casually or for evening which is great for travel and, of course, they roll up for packing.
Great Silver Cuff
You knew this was coming! How easy it is to throw a single, stunning silver cuff on your arm versus layering jangling loads of bangles. The confidence of a simple signature statement works well with aforementioned maxis, with evening sleeveless shifts, with denim and t-shirts or this season’s hot shirtdresses. For summer, I love The Daisy Cuff, The Vineyard Cuff, The Chrysanthemum Cuff with Serenity Blue Amazonite or for a stunning bracelet that’s not exactly a cuff, the Bamboo Bracelet with Natural Turquoise. Pick yours from our Repoussé Jewelry website!
Long Chain Pendant
No fiddling with clasps behind your neck; no choker length necklace too close to the neck, for summer a sterling silver pendant on a long, long chain is the answer! Again, it’s perfect for a work summer wrap dress, light evening sundresses or a great white sleeveless blouse. Swingy, sexy, easy, elegant, cool. I love the Palm Nugget Pendant, 3D but so light, with its sensuous wave pattern. Other alternatives, the Chrysanthemum Pendant with Pink Opals or Sapphires or the Bamboo Pendant with Natural Turquoise. Gorgeous!
Often I love tortoise sunglasses but for summer nothing is a more dramatic statement or more protective than classic black sunglasses. Aviators are simply too fragile during summer activities, the tiny bands break and the lenses pop out. I like Ann Taylor’s perfect rounded square black sunglasses, very sturdy, very chic, very Jackie O. For you millennials, she was…oh never mind!
For summer, you either get a short short haircut or grow your hair at least to the collarbone because frizz will make your life miserable otherwise!
Worst of all, shorter-than-chin-length does not allow you to make a proper ponytail, my go to all summer long. Truth be told, swimming outdoors is a passion of mine, but repeated blow-drying would be ruinous to my highlighted tresses. So back my hair goes, slicked with a bit of conditioning styling gel into a soft scrunchy. Yes they’re baaaaaaaaaaaack! OR my favorite: the clip you can get in CVS that creates a real pony cascade effect. (See photo) In 20 minutes in the natural summer heat, my hair is dry and fine down but how much lovelier to keep it up, off the neck.
I know I know. Even in summer, we’re all supposed to love porcelain skin. But I think a bit of color is classic and feels healthy…if you fake it. You get Tan Towels from HSN too. Love Tan Towels. Every few days, you swab these all over and you are dry and ready to get dressed in minutes. They smell citrusy and create a slimming effect.
Do an extra swipe on the back of your thighs and tummy area for an optical illusion. I dab a bit on the face especially the cheeks to ensure I’m not tempted to get “a little sun.” For days spent outside, I slather major SPF all over every half hour. For evening, I use Avon leg makeup in medium to smooth out my legs and arms. Because medium is darker than I really need, I use just a tiny bit and rub it in really well. More economical and smear-proof that way.
One Piece Swimsuits
They are sleek, sexy, stylish. Love a maillot in black, hot pink or red, most flattering in a solid. And if you’re like me and love to swim in the ocean waves, no worries about losing a piece in the surf!
So what are your top 6 style musts for summer? I’d love to hear!
